January is National Train Your Dog Month! If you’re looking for something to do with your dog this winter, why not try K9 Fitness training? A certified canine fitness coach can design custom fitness programs for puppies, senior dogs, healthy dogs, pre and post spay or whelping, sport dogs, dogs that could lose a few pounds, and dogs that are released from rehab to exercise. Keep an eye out for drop-in canine fitness classes in the Oshkosh and Neenah areas.

Just standing on an unstable object works the inside and outside muscles of all four legs, and builds core strength and body awareness. Throw in some weight shifting back and forth to promote shoulder strength. Spinning over a gap does wonders for balance and the adductor and abductor muscles of the legs. Tuck sit and fold back down strengthen the rear assembly, core and shoulders. Tessa is demonstrating a nice little routine for a senior dog, a 6-month-old puppy or somewhere in between. As with all forms of exercise, ensure proper form and watch for signs of fatigue. It is better to quit early than to overdo it. Message me if you’d like to learn more.
